Kids track · Three missions
Sidekicks, assemble
Welcome, junior hero. I will not talk to you like you just learned the alphabet yesterday. You already make money choices: snacks, games, gifts, “but I neeeeeed it.” Let’s name those choices so they stop sneaking past you.
Mission 1
Wants vs needs
A need keeps you safe, healthy, or able to learn: food, a coat when it is cold, a place to sleep, the shoes that actually fit.
A want is the extra sparkle. The limited-edition slime. The third stuffed sloth. Wants are not villains. They are just not allowed to cut in line in front of needs.
Try this at the store: hold the thing and ask, “If I skip this, am I okay tomorrow?” If yes, it is probably a want. Superhero voice optional. Cape not required.
Mission 2 · The mighty piggy bank
Saving is not “never have fun.” Saving is future-you sending a thank-you note. Three jars beat one mysterious pocket:
Spend
Small fun now. You picked it on purpose, so it tastes better than a surprise empty wallet.
Save + Share
Save for a bigger goal you can name. Share a slice if you want to help someone else suit up.
Label the jars. Draw lightning bolts. If the spend jar is empty, that is data, not a tragedy.
Mission 3 · First job energy
A first job can look like a lemonade cup, dog walking, yard help, or a family chore chart with real pay. The lesson is the same: you trade time and effort for money, then you decide what that money becomes.
- Agree on the job and the pay before you start. Heroes read the mission briefing.
- Do the whole job. “Mostly raked” is not raked.
- Put a piece in save before the spend jar starts whispering.
When you are older, a paycheck will try the same trick with bigger numbers. Same story, louder cape.
